US Army 535th Unit

Post 10225 has adopted the US Army Reserve 535th MP Unit, which has recently moved from its former home at the Army Reserve Center in Raleigh, NC, to the building in Garner vacated by the 171st. Adopting a unit means that, besides sending phone cards and "goody" packages to the troops, we work on the local level to offer moral support to the dependents left behind when the unit deploys. This could be assistance in a variety of ways.

Our Post is committed to assisting the families of this unit in any way needed. If you need assistance from the VFW, please contact the Post at (919) 772-1062.

Items that our troops can use over there are...
Chapstick, Eye Glasses Cleaner, Baby Powder, Moisturizing Skin Lotions,
Foot Powder, Cookies, Snacks, Tea Bags, Candies, CD's, DVD, VHS Tapes,
writing paper, pens and envelopes, personal hygiene products,
reading materials, puzzle books, cotton underwear and socks

Items to avoid...
aerosol cans (they explode), perfumed products (they attract bugs),
soft soaps like Ivory (it melts),
News from the Home Front

The Family Support Group (FSG) tries to stay in touch with the family members of all deployed troops - regardless of where they live. They issue newsletters to provide useful information, and their phone team keeps in touch by phone. If you are a family member, and are not on the list, please contact the Family Support Group Unit Coordinator and let her know.

Events are also scheduled for the families. Meetings, picnics and other outings are included, where the families can meet, share information and discuss common problems and issues.
